WINDSOR, NY – This town of 5,000 people situated near the Pennsylvania border and directly over one of the richest deposits of the gas-laden Marcellus Shale formation is moving forward with ordinances that would clear the way for fracking.
Yes, that is right, Windsor Town officials are planning to approve fracking – “gas and oil development,” as they term it – despite New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s fracking ban, issued late last year.
But as Town Supervisor Carolyn Price points out, the state ban covers only “high-volume hydraulic fracturing.” And there are many other forms of fracking and drilling, Price said.
