A pipeline designed to take natural gas from the Marcellus Shale play to New England received a green light from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
FERC issued an order Tuesday approving construction of the 124-mile Constitution Pipeline to send natural gas to New York and New England markets.
The Constitution Pipeline, which is designed to interconnect with the existing Iroquois Pipeline and Tennessee Gas Pipeline, could begin construction in the first quarter of 2015, pending other regulatory permit approvals.
With existing pipelines effectively maxed out, New York and New England have seen price spikes in natural gas and higher electricity costs, particularly during last year’s harsh winter.Read more
