38 New Drilling Permits Issued in Utica Shale Region

During the week ending on Nov. 8, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) issued 38 new permits for horizontal drilling in the Utica and Point Pleasant Shale plays, according to a report by the Morning Journal.

One permit was issued in Harrison County, four in Guernsey County, six in Monroe County, 13 in Belmont County and 14 in Carroll County. Currently there are 51 drilling rigs operating in the area. The total number of permits issued so far has reached 1,609, with 1,162 wells already drilled and a total of 617 wells in production.

In Carroll County, nine permits were granted to a Chesapeake Energy subsidiary in Fox Township. The remaining five permits were issued to R.E. Gas Development in Washington Township.
